Slightly to the west of the CBD but still an easy 20 minute commute, and only a couple of MRT stops from trendy Tiong Bahru, the Redhill and Alexandra areas are very conveniently located. But there is much more to the area than it's transport links. It's home to the original katong laksa and has many great local eateries.

You will find some seriously cool urban street art, courtesy of the Social Creatives (a non-profit social group who are interested in connecting Singaporeans through art). Not to be missed is Colbar, one of the oldest cafes in the city, located in an old British Army Canteen - it has real rustic charm and serves up great value no-nonsense western food.

There is also some great architecture to check out including the monochrome art-deco inspired Wessex Estate and innovative HDB development SkyVille which easily rivals the Pinnacle in the CBD.

Cove’s Top Picks:
- Creamier at Gillman Barracks for scrummy ice cream in a great setting
- Queensway Lau Tan Tutu Kueh for delicious South East Asian pastries
- PS Cafe at Dempsey Hill for brunch
- Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffeefor your regular coffee fix
